The performance takes place at the Royal Spa, Queen’s Park, at 7pm on Saturday 4 July 2015. You can buy tickets direct from this webpage [see below]. Tickets are £12.50 adults, £6.50 children. Weather forecast:

The show, presented by the brilliant creative team at Illyria, features eye-popping magical illusions designed by the world famous magician Paul Daniels. Yes, that’s right, the massive TV star of the 80s, has personally overseen the special effects for this production.

Early reviews describe The Sorcerer’s Apprentice as “wonderful”,  “highly recommended” and “a magical treat for all ages”.

WARNING: We must inform all parents and children that this Sorcerer’s Apprentice performance is a splishy-splashy production in which everything promises to go quite disastrously wrong. Illyria are anxious for visitors to be aware that “the show features a HUGE amount of water.” Children, we fear, are likely to get wet.

Guests are invited to bring drinks and picnics, plus cushions and blankets (and umbrellas). The performance lasts 90 minutes including a 20 minute interval.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is directed by Oliver Gray, who tells us: “The original boy-wizard story was most famously told in Disney’s Fantasia with Mickey Mouse in the title role.  Before that it was told in a short poem by Goethe.

Paul Daniels, master magician

“It has been a favourite story since ancient Greek times. A young apprentice, bored of his chores, waves his wand and a broom magically fetches water. Fantastic! But he can’t find a spell to stop it. In desperation he saws it in half – and from there everything spirals out of control…”

The show features the original music (‘L’Apprenti Sorcier’) by French composer Paul Dukas, written in 1896, and featured in the 1944 Disney classic ’Fantasia’.

ABOUT: Illyria Theatre has been bringing high quality performances to Queen’s Park for nearly a decade. Last year’s Macbeth drew an audience of over 400 people for a wonderfully dramatic night of violence and bloodshed. 2015 marks Illyria’s 24th year on the road. The company is now based permanently in Cornwall, but each summer continues to tour the length and breadth of the UK and beyond. Illyria is an Equity Outdoor Touring Guidelines compliant company. Follow Illyria on twitter: @IllyriaTheatre.

PARKING: there is metered parking all around Queen’s Park, £1 per hour. We advise visitors travelling by car to aim for North Drive or East Drive (where parking places are usually available), and then walk across the park. Nowhere is more than three minutes walk away from the Royal Spa.

BUS: Visitors by bus (numbers 23 & 18) can walk from the Pepperpot, 5 mins, or from Eastern Road (1, 1a, 7), also a five minute walk. For further details, visit JourneyOn.
